| Real-Time Tor Detection Service now available with XML interface | As of July 15, 2006 we have added support for Real-Time Tor Detection to our XML interface on ippages.com. This will be rolled out to our free showmyip.com server, and our SOAP, HTML, simple text and other interfaces over the next few weeks. Real-Time Tor Detection as part of our IP Address Lookup service means that a new <lookup_tor_node> section is added, which includes the following data elements: A few relevant things to note and to better understand what all this means: |
| Reduced Daily Access Maximums now 199 instead of 300 | As of April 3, 2006 we have further reduced the maximum number of times per day that users are allowed to use our web site from 300 to 199, unless they are a subscriber. Our subscription rates are so low, our number of users is continuing to rise, and we are about to launch some new and exciting services. Go to https://www.ippages.com/dynamicDNS to learn more about how and why to sign up. |
| Auto Refresh every 30 Minutes for Super Dynamic DNS Subscribers | As of December 20, 2005 we now automatically refresh our http://www.ippages.com/ page every 30 minutes for Super Dynamic DNS subscribers. Your browser can thus be used as a Dynamic DNS client, checking your IP Address every 30 minutes and updating your domain name if it has changed. Just leave your browser open - minimized if you prefer - and pointed to our web site at http://www.ippages.com/ to make this work for you. |
| Lookup Domain Mail Servers now displayed for IP Address Lookups | As of December 14, 2005 we now show mail servers assigned to the Lookup Host/Domain name in our Lookup results, if there are any that the "dig" command can find. One example can be seen on this lookup http://www.ippages.com/?domain=maxmind.com Mail Servers will be added to XML, simple and SOAP lookup interfaces sometime in the near future. |
| Lookup Nmap Port Scan Results not shown by default | As of December 12, 2005 we no longer show Nmap port scan results in Lookup results, unless the &get=nmap parameter is part of the lookup URL. We have also eliminated the Registrant lookup data, unless the &get= parameter includes the registrant field name, as in &get=registrant or &get=registrant, nmap. These changes have been done to reduce lookup times, since Nmap port scans and registrant lookups take on average 5-10 seconds. Additional options will be added sometime in the near future, to allow further control of lookup results. |
| Lookup Domain Name Servers now displayed for IP Address Lookups | As of December 12, 2005 we now show nameservers assigned to the Lookup Host/Domain name in our Lookup results, if there are any that the "dig" command can find. One example can be seen on this lookup http://www.ippages.com/?domain=bmw.com Nameservers will be added to XML, simple and SOAP lookup interfaces sometime in the near future. |
| Equivalent Lookup IP Addresses now displayed for IP Address Lookups | As of December 11, 2005 we now show equivalent IP Addresses, for Lookup results, if there are any that the "dig" command can find. Some domains such as cnn.com have multiple IP addresses, as can be seen on this lookup http://www.ippages.com/?domain=cnn.com Equivalent IP Addresses will be added to XML, simple and SOAP lookup interfaces sometime in the near future. |
| Reduced Daily Access Maximums now 300 instead of 750 | As of December 11, 2005 we have reduced the maximum number of times per day that users are allowed to use our web site from 750 to 300, unless they are a subscriber. This has been necessitated by the increasing number of abuses of our service - some users are hitting us more than once per second, on average, all day long. We have also re-enabled access to our subscription signup in order to accommodate anyone wishing to sign up. Becoming a subscriber is not cost-prohibitive, and we have structured this more like a co-op one-time membership fee. Go to https://www.ippages.com/dynamicDNS to learn more about how and why to sign up. |
| Computer/Device Properties new and updated Javascript information | As of September 24, 2005 we have added to our HTML pages, new and updated information provided by Javascript about your computer or device. Our thanks to webreference.com and Andy King for much of this, but also to the Javascript Bible 5th Edition by Danny Goodman. | IP Address Lookup Service statistical and performance tracking lookup fields | As of August 6, 2005 we have added support for the following lookup field names: And for subscribers: |
| IP Address Lookup Service Timezone, Area Code, and Postal/Zip Code fields upgraded | As of August 5, 2005 we have added additional information for Timezone, Area Code, and Postal/Zip Code fields on our HTML pages. We plan to add this information to our XML and other interfaces sometime in the future. If you are a subscriber, and have specific need for this please send us an email to support@showmyip.com |
| New map links added Google Maps and Multimap.com | As of July 30, 2005 we have added links to Google Maps and Multimap.com for IP Address Lookup subscribers, and for users of ippages.com/geo/ when we can determine the City, Latitude, and Longitude of an IP Address. |
| New wait parameter supported wait=any or wait=n (seconds) | As of July 29, 2005 we have added support for a new query parameter wait=any or wait=n to allow users to wait for our server to become available rather than being automatically re-routed to one of our alternate servers if/when that server is too busy at that time. For example, using http://www.ippages.com/simple/?wait=any will always wait until the server is available to respond. We have a default wait time of 15 seconds if no wait= parameter is specified. You can specify any other wait= value in seconds between 15 and 3600, for example wait=60 to wait for up to a maximum of 1 minute, or wait=300 to wait for up to 5 minutes. The wait= parameter can be added to any of our web site URL's and interfaces. |
| IP Address Lookup Service version lookup field name | As of July 20, 2005 we now support lookup field name version to allow optional tracking of the version number of the lookup interface in use. For an example, try this lookup link. |
| ICANN - Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ICANN list of registars | As of July 15, 2005 we now include a link to ICANN's list of accredited registrars who compete for your business to provide domain name registrations and related services. Here is the link to the accredited domain-name registrars. |
| IP Address Lookup Service https: secure access | As of July 8, 2005 we now provide the ability for subscribers to do IP Address lookups to our XML and simple text interfaces over https. For example: https://www.ippages.com/xml/?domain=yahoo.com&get=ip,host,country and https://www.ippages.com/simple/?yahoo=google.com&get=ip,host,country |
| IP Address Lookup Service Reverse Domain Name | As of July 3, 2005 we now include the Reverse Domain Name as part of the lookup data when doing lookups based on a domain/host/site name. The domain/host/site name used in the lookup - for example alberta.com - gives us a numeric IP Address when we query the Domain Name System. We then use this numeric IP Address to query the Domain Name System a second time and report this to you as the Reverse Domain Name, which does not always match the original domain/host/site name. Try this lookup query for example: http://www.ippages.com/xml/?domain=alberta.com&get=ip,host,reverse_host |
| IP Address Lookup Service ?domain= parameter | As of July 3, 2005 we have added support for the ?domain= parameter, which is equivalent to the ?site= and ?host= parameters. You can now do IP Address Lookups with ?domain=alberta.com for example. |
| convertplus.com Online conversion of weights and measures | As of June 29, 2005 we have added a link to convertplus.com to our main page to assist with conversions of Area, Capacity and Volume, Circular measure, Computer storage, Distance and Length, Energy and Work, Fuel Consumption, Power, Pressure, Speed, Temperature, Time, Torque, Mass and Weight. |
| IP Address Lookup Service Nmap port version scans | As of June 28, 2005 we have updated our XML IP Address lookup interface to allow subscribers to get Nmap version scan results. This is done by using get= field name "nmapv" which provides additional version information about the software listening on each port when/where possible. Try this lookup query for example: http://www.ippages.com/xml/?host=insecure.org&get=ip,nmapv |
| IP Address Lookup Service Nmap filtered ports section added to XML Interface | As of June 28, 2005 we have updated our XML IP Address lookup interface to allow subscribers to report Nmap scan results for both open ports and filtered ports. Try this lookup query for example: http://www.ippages.com/xml/?host=ip2location.com&get=ip,nmap |
| IP Address Lookup Service Nmap results added to XML Interface | As of June 25, 2005 we have updated our XML IP Address lookup interface to allow subscribers to get Nmap scan results for open ports on the lookup IP address or host. We are only allowing this at present by specifying "nmap" as one of the get= parameter field names, since there could be a considerable delay in getting these results. Nmap is an open-source security vulnerability port scanning utility from insecure.org |
| IP Address Lookup Service XML Interface Enhancements | As of June 18, 2005 we have updated our XML interface to allow specifying the lookup data fields required, exactly as has been available with our simple text interface. The primary advantage of this is to reduce lookup query times, since some data fields such as "registrant", "timeserver", "nmap" and "host" depend on response times from other servers that are sometimes slow. The field names must be part of the get= parameter, and should be separated by commas: for example we just tested a lookup with &get=ip,country,state,currency,lookup_count,lookup_time and the lookup_time for these 6 fields was only 0.0048 seconds. The list of available lookup field names can be found at http://www.ippages.com/lookups/#DoLookup |
| New Server New Server for Subscribers | As of June 8, 2005 we have a new server http://www.ippages.com in place for IP Address Lookup subscribers in order to reduce, and provide more consistent, lookup query times. Existing subscribers have been notified and given instructions on how they can move their subscriptions over to the new server. |
| Terms of Use Availability and Recourse | As of May 10, 2005 we have added a new "Availability and Recourse" clause to our Terms of Use for IP Address Lookup subscribers, as part of our commitment to ensuring our service is available at all times. Our average availability over the past 6 months has exceeded 99.9% which is roughly equal to 30 minutes of downtime per month. |
| IP Address Lookup Subscription New 12-month Subscription option | As of May 10, 2005 we have added a 12-month Subscription option for IP Address Lookups, and removed the maximum daily limit for 3-month and 12-month subscriptions. These subscriptions will include either 5,000 or 10,000 lookups per day, and accrue charges for any lookups in excess of these daily limits. |
| Other web sites IP Address Lookups now include link to find other web sites hosted at the same Lookup IP Address | As of April 23, 2005 we have added a link on the IP Address Lookup results page to find other web sites hosted at the same Lookup IP Address using the whois.sc Reverse IP service provided by Name Intelligence Inc. |
| Similar domain names IP Address Lookups now include link to find similar domain names | As of March 31, 2005 we have added a link on the IP Address Lookup results page to find domain names similar to the lookup host name using the whois.sc service provided by Name Intelligence Inc. |
| Wikipedia.org Country Web Sites now include link to wikipedia.org | As of March 24, 2005 we have added a link for Country Web Sites to the English Wikipedia.org page for that country. |
| whois.sc Host names now include link to whois.sc | As of March 24, 2005 we have added a link beside your Host name, or your Lookup Host name, to get additional information on that Host from whois.sc which is a service provided by Name Intelligence Inc. |
| Featured Articles Shortcut links to Featured Articles | As of March 23, 2005 we have added a drop-down list of shortcut links to Featured Articles we are compiling that we believe to be of significant interest to our users. |
| Alternate Ports Access is now available to ippages.com through port numbers other than 80 | As of March 7, 2005 you can use any of port numbers 80, 805, 5595 or 60080. For example: http://www.ippages.com:5595 will now work, as will http://www.ippages.com:60080/xml and http://www.ippages.com:805/simple. If you do not specify a port number, of course, then port number 80 is assumed. |
| Long IP Addresses IP Address Lookups now possible on Long IP Addresses with ?ipn= parameter | As of March 2, 2005 you can do IP Address Lookups on Long IP Addresses instead of only IP Addresses or Host/Domain Names. As well as using ?ip=192.150.14.120 or ?host=adobe.com you can now use ?ipn=3231059576 and get the same results. Simple text and XML lookups now also support the &get=ipn and &get=ip_long and &get=ipl field names (they are all equivalent) to get this field value returned as part of the Lookup. XML lookup schema now includes the <ip_long> node name. If you do not know what Long IP Addresses are, don't worry about it. But if you already have your IP Addresses in long format, you no longer have to convert them yourself first. |
